The Quantock hills of Somerset, England. I am reading a splendidly written book by H.V.Morton entitled In Search of England; which documents Morton’s countryside tour in the 1920s in quaintly evocative prose, similar to James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small. Here is a quote:
”The Devon hills are fair and woody, the Cornish hills are wild and craggy, but the hills of Somerset rise up to the sky clothed in the cloths of heaven. Somerset hills lift up to the sky fields which are among the loveliest in England. Seen from a distance they are a squared patchwork of gold, sage-green, apple-green, and red….” (original image saxonfenken on flickr)
